When I click on properties for my laptop’s onboard sound card, device manager initially tells me for that the “device is working properly”, but when I go to the card’s properties tab and look at multimedia devices, it says that “the driver is enabled but has not been started”. The time now is No Default Voice Capture: All times are GMT Pull hresult 0x no card out and boot up the system, shut it down and put the card hresult 0x no in, then boot up again. I guess I was lucky, though, as it did restore my sound – unlike some people who went to all that trouble without success.

Windows seems to have mislaid your sound card. It took me some time to figure this one out.
P The yellow speaker icon, that lets you control volume. I own one and it does this from time to time do this when they get moved a bit in the PCI slot. If not, looks like you have a duff sound card.
