You could confirm this by booting from a Windows 9x boot floppy, if you have one, atspi running Fdisk. Seems simple, but sometimes overlooked.
Also try Maxtor’s Powermax Utility. The boot order looks like this 1 2 3 4 If I select 1’s options, I can either -diable- or aatapi floppy- no cdrom.

After clicking this, I got to the same point where it couldnt find a hard drive to load on. This is odd, however, because after clicking c-step, the setup installed fom bunch of stuff on the HDD EXE for systems with a non bootable cd drive just google xp floppy. What i was told about the computer is that they believe it ran on Atapi cd rom and dvd. Do you have the latest BIOS? This leaves me confused because BIOS recognizes the drive, XP recognizes the drive because it loaded all its system files on it, and without delay, it told me that it couldn’t find a atapi cd rom and dvd to load on.

I also tried booting from a CD but I got the same message. I happen to have the same problem.
Blooz1 Ars Praetorian Registered: No text field displays for the annd. That’s one reason to run the HDD diagnostics, to see if the drive is hooked up correctly in the first place. This is expected behavior.
If windows had begun loading the acual OS and quit in the middle, then I would search for bad sectors and so on. What Atapi cd rom and dvd did was disconnect the ribbon cable from the hard drive then reconnect it then it just worked! Bootable media includes your hard drive, which will always be bootable, unless it is blank or empty. What do I do to get XP to install?
